Times Best Law Firms

Lawfront has secured a commanding position in The Legal 500 UK 2026 rankings with 81 combined practice area recognitions across its six member firms.

The combined performance places Lawfront ahead of all competitors in regional England rankings, surpassing established national firms, including Mills & Reeve LLP, Freeths LLP, Shoosmiths LLP and DLA Piper.

Quality and Breadth Combined

Lawfront’s member firms achieved 14 Tier One rankings and 29 Tier Two rankings, with over half of all recognitions (53%) positioned in the top two tiers. This demonstrates not only market breadth but the calibre of legal expertise across the Group’s platform.

“These rankings validate our Regional Leaders with National Scale strategy,” said Axel Koelsch, COO of Lawfront. “Our member firms maintain their regional excellence and client relationships whilst benefiting from shared technology platforms and operational capabilities. This combination delivers both local expertise and national-scale resources that clients increasingly demand.”

Member Firm Highlights

The six Lawfront member firms demonstrated strong individual and collective performance:

  • Trethowans led individual firm performance with 22 rankings spanning the South East and South West regions, including four Tier One recognitions
  • Nelsons maintained its strong East Midlands position with 19 rankings, including three Tier One and 10 Tier Two recognitions
  • Brachers achieved 13 rankings with five Tier One recognitions across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex, including Corporate & Commercial and Commercial Property

Geographic Market Leadership

Lawfront’s combined regional presence demonstrates the effectiveness of its consolidation strategy:

  • South East: 35 combined rankings (Brachers, Trethowans) versus market leader Cripps (28 rankings)
  • North West: 20 combined rankings (Farleys, Slater Heelis) alongside established players Brabners and Weightmans
  • East Midlands: 19 rankings through Nelsons’ market-leading position
  • Essex: 7 rankings through Fisher Jones Greenwood’s growing presence

Platform Strategy Delivers Results

The Legal 500 2026 results reflect Lawfront’s investment in shared technology infrastructure, including Project Drive, Katchr analytics dashboards, and the ShareDo case management platform, which enable member firms to deliver enhanced client service while maintaining their regional identities and relationships.

“Our member firms remain deeply embedded in their regional markets with locally-led partnerships, whilst accessing the operational excellence, technology platforms, and knowledge sharing that come with being part of a £130+ million platform,” Koelsch added. “This model is resonating with both clients and legal professionals.”
